Utilities & Home Services
Clive operates municipal water and sewer service. MidAmerican is the identified electric and gas provider, while broadband should be checked by exact address.
Clive Utility Billing
Contact Clive Utility Billing at 515-867-5199 to establish water/sewer service and confirm current deposit or account-opening requirements. The current city code says water meters are read monthly and payment is due by the 15th.
CITY OF CLIVE →MidAmerican Energy
MidAmerican is the established provider identified in current Clive utility information. Verify the exact property address when starting or transferring service, especially on developing edges of the city.
MIDAMERICAN ENERGY →Check Your Address
Broadband availability can vary by property, particularly in newer western Clive subdivisions. Use an address-level availability check rather than assuming a provider covers every Clive address.
CHECK BROADBAND BY ADDRESS →Trash, Recycling & Getting Rid of Stuff
Metro Waste Authority publishes Clive's residential collection information, and I-80/35 is the useful dividing line for collection day.
Current MWA information lists weekly garbage collection on Thursday west of I-80/35 and Friday east of I-80/35. Recycling follows the same geographic division on an alternating schedule. Check the live calendar because recycling weeks and holiday schedules change.
New residents are directed to Clive City Hall at 515-867-5199 for service setup. MWA handles missed collection, cart problems and collection questions at 515-244-0021.
CLIVE COLLECTION INFO →Clive participates in MWA's Compost It! program. Collection seasons change, so use the live Clive schedule rather than relying on last year's dates.
YARD WASTE INFO →MWA's large-item program covers Clive. Extra trash, furniture, appliances and specialty materials can have different procedures, fees or sticker requirements.
LARGE-ITEM OPTIONS →MWA identifies Metro Park East and regional hazardous-waste facilities for materials that should not go into ordinary curbside trash.
DISPOSAL OPTIONS →Address, License, Voting & Vehicles
Before choosing a county office, determine whether the new Clive property is in Polk or Dallas County. The city boundary crosses both, because apparently one county was too straightforward.
Vehicle title/registration, county election administration and property-assessment records all depend on whether the residence is in Polk or Dallas County. Do not choose based only on the mailing city or school district.
Iowa DOT
A practical state service center is the Ankeny DMV at 6310 SE Convenience Boulevard. Iowa DOT currently recommends appointments while also accepting walk-ins.
ANKENY DMV →Polk County Treasurer
Polk-side residents use the Treasurer at 111 Court Avenue in Des Moines for vehicle title and registration. Title-transfer appointments are required.
POLK COUNTY VEHICLES →Dallas County Treasurer
Dallas-side residents use the Treasurer at 800 Court Street in Adel. Dallas County requires appointments for title transfers and out-of-state move-ins.
DALLAS COUNTY VEHICLES →Polk-side residents use Polk County Elections; Dallas-side residents use Dallas County Elections. Iowa also provides statewide voter registration and polling-place lookup. If you're new to Iowa, vehicle title/registration is generally due within 30 days of establishing residency.
Schools, Library & Around Town
Clive's county line and school-district line are different things. Verify school assignment from the exact home address before enrolling.
Two Public Districts
Clive includes West Des Moines Community Schools and Waukee Community School District territory. WDMCS provides an address boundary tool, and Waukee serves Clive addresses as well. Do not assume Polk County automatically means WDMCS or Dallas County automatically means Waukee.
WDMCS BOUNDARIES →Clive Public Library
The Clive Public Library is at 1900 NW 114th Street, phone 515-453-2221. Check the library's current site for card requirements and hours before your first visit.
CLIVE PUBLIC LIBRARY →Use the Correct County Assessor
Polk-side properties use the Polk County Assessor; Dallas-side properties use the Dallas County Assessor. Clive's municipal GIS is also useful for city limits, parcels, floodplain, easements and utility infrastructure.
CLIVE GIS →Moving With Pets
Clive requires annual city licenses for dogs and cats six months of age or older. Current fee details should be checked with the City rather than copied from an old schedule.
Clive's municipal code requires annual licensing. Existing animals are generally due by April 30, with licensing also required when a resident acquires an animal or it reaches six months of age.
A little planning goes a long way.
Clive's standing parking and winter rules matter if a truck, trailer or extra vehicle is going to spend much time on the street.
Clive prohibits leaving a vehicle continuously on public property for more than 24 hours. If your move will obstruct a street, alley, sidewalk or other public right-of-way, contact the City before move day.
Vehicles may not remain on public streets, alleys or City-owned off-street parking areas while snow or freezing rain is falling, while snow is drifting onto the street, and for at least 24 hours afterward. The restriction can extend to 48 hours if the street has not been cleared curb-to-curb.
Medications, chargers, toiletries, clothes, paperwork and anything you'll want before the rest is unpacked. Future-you will appreciate not excavating six totes for a phone charger.
Totes handle what you can pack.
Move+ helps with what you can't.
Add extra moving equipment for the bigger, awkward parts of the move: mattress protection, lifting straps, extra blankets, furniture sliders, corner protection, stretch wrap, doorstops and organization pouches, plus the extra tote it all comes in.
